Fay Shin sensitively responds to the environment around her and has interests in spatial sensations and the perception of the subject, through the faculties of the entire body. The artist fully encounters the objects that are closely engaged with our lives today and, through her painting, captures the moment when the border between the objects and herself is blurred. She concentrates on momentary feelings that arise in the midst of tranquil existence, allowing abstract expressions to unfold naturally, creating with various materials and techniques like spray paint, watercolor, dyeing, and sewing. While her early practice focused on facing and expressing the relationship between herself and the environment on her own, now she is augmenting her interest in perceiving and facing the relationship with spaces that the other people’s bodies and non-human. Currently, she regards painting as a three-dimensional structure made of surface and support and seeks to expand it in pursuit of an artwork that relates with space and newly meets the audience.
